Ahrtal 2025 wine festival – a new look for the pleasure mile

Wine Festival Ahrtal 2025 – hardly any other event combines fruity Pinot Noir, colorful autumn vineyards and Rhenish joie de vivre so perfectly. Every year, the traditional celebration attracts thousands of connoisseurs to the narrow valley between Altenahr and Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. For guests staying in our vacation apartment, this means that in just 20 minutes by train you can be surrounded by the scent of grape must and roasted almonds – and return to the Rhine in the evening to relax. Read why a detour in 2025 is particularly worthwhile.

Why the Ahrtal 2025 wine festival is a must-do

After the flood years of 2021/22, the Ahr Valley is noticeably on the upswing. According to Ahrtal-Tourismus, more than 85% of the wine taverns and wineries have reopened their doors. In 2024, the valley already recorded 1.4 million day visitors – an increase of 32% compared to the previous year. 2025 will be the first year in which all festival miles from Mayschoß to Walporzheim will be open again without restrictions. A new feature is the “Genuss-Meile 2.0”: a four-kilometre-long pedestrian boulevard with 60 winegrowers’ stands, street food cubes and a pop-up vinotheque offering different DJ sets every evening. Families and dog owners in particular benefit from the wider paths and numerous drinking water stations. For sporty guests, we recommend combining it with a Rheinsteig hike or a stage of the red wine hiking trail.

Dates & program highlights 2025

The official festival calendar includes three long weekends: September 5-7, September 12-14 and October 3-5, 2025. Each Friday starts at 5 p.m. with the barrel tapping on the Ahrweiler market square, followed by an LED vine illumination along the town wall. On Saturdays, the program includes guided vineyard hikes (€8 each) and the legendary “Burgundy Night”, where the 2024 “Ahr-Spätlese” will be served for the first time. On Sundays, the festival parade with 40 lovingly decorated floats is a delight. One of them rolls in from Oberwinter every year. It was designed by the Heimat- & Verschönerungsverein (local heritage and beautification association) to emphasize the close connection between the Rhine and Ahr valleys. New in 2025: a silent wine tasting, where guests receive individual sommelier explanations via radio headphones. – Perfect if you prefer to go at your own pace.

Winemaker profile: From Pinot Noir to Frühburgunder

Over 40 winegrowers will be presenting their best wines this year. One of the crowd favorites is the Meyer-Näkel Winerywhose Pinot Noir regularly scores 93+ Parker points. However, the focus in 2025 is on the indigenous Frühburgunder variety: thanks to a warm spring, the vintage promises expressive aromas of blackberry and violet. Sustainability remains a trend: 13 wineries are now certified organic, five are working on “Fair’n Green” pilot projects. Many wineries offer free guided tours of their cellars, where you can experience the post-flood reconstruction at first hand – a moving look behind the scenes. For a break in between, it’s worth visiting the dog beach bar in Dernau. Here there are treats for four-legged friends and non-alcoholic grape secco for masters and mistresses.
