Whether wild animals, hands-on science or pure nature – every age group will find a highlight here. Have fun browsing – and check right away to see if your preferred travel dates are still available!
1st Drachenfelsbahn & Königswinter summit playground
Only 18 km and a romantic cogwheel train ride separate you from the famous Drachenfels. A modern adventure playground, the legendary panoramic view over the Rhine Valley and plenty of picnic benches for hungry explorers await you at the top. In 2025, the historic cable car will run again daily from 9 am (last descent at 6 pm). Tip: The well-secured circular trail to the “Elisabeth Platform” viewing point starts right next to the mountain station – perfect for children on balance bikes.
2nd SEA LIFE Königswinter – sharks close enough to touch
The large aquarium with 3,000 animals in 36 tanks is particularly popular on rainy days. Highlight 2025: The new “coral kindergarten”, where young fish are cared for right before your eyes. Families can save money and avoid the queue with the online Family Pass. After the visit, the Rhine embankment promenade with ice cream stands beckons – pram-friendly!
3. climbing forest Hennef – adventure between beech trees
15 courses at a height of up to 20 m will get your vacation moving. For minis (3-5 years) there is a special mousetrap at ground level. The forest parking lot is 27 km from Oberwinter; booking is recommended as the operator is testing a new digital admission system in 2025. Picnic tables, barbecue areas and a forest café round off the excursion.
4th Rolandseck Wildlife Park – free fallow deer feeding
Just a five-minute drive uphill: at Rolandseck Wildlife Park, mouflon, fallow deer and red deer roam through a 35-hectare open-air enclosure. Admission is still free, and donation boxes are used to finance food and care. If you would like to join a short hike, follow the marked RheinSteig access route towards Erpeler Ley. Handcarts allowed!
5th Geyser Andernach – natural physics to marvel at
Germany’s most spectacular cold-water geyser shoots up to 60 m high – and it can be planned. The combined tour of interactive museum, boat trip and eruption lasts around three hours and starts 34 km south of Oberwinter. The 2025 season calendar promises at least three eruptions a day. Children up to the age of five travel free of charge.
