Kirschblüte Bonn 2026

Cherry blossom Bonn 2026

Every spring, Heerstraße and Breite Straße in Bonn’s old town are transformed into a sea of pale pink blossoms. The Bonn cherry blossom is one of the most spectacular springtime experiences in Europe – around 250,000 visitors came in 2025. Historically, the first buds open between March 24 and April 4. In this guide, you can find out when the peak bloom is expected, where the three best photo spots are and how to get there without the stress of parking.

Why the Bonn Cherry Blossom 2026 will be a must-see

Ever since Japanese ornamental cherries adorned Heerstrasse and Breite Strasse in the 1980s, the cherry blossom festival in Bonn has been one of the most spectacular spring events in Europe. According to the city of Bonn, around 250,000 visitors came in 2025 – a new record. The tourism agency is forecasting double-digit growth again for 2026: 40% of early-bird flights from the Netherlands and France are already fully booked in July 2025. The city is responding with extended traffic-free time slots at weekends and a new one-way street concept, which was presented in a council bill on July 4, 2025. If you want a stress-free experience, travel during the week and combine a stroll through the old town with a relaxed walk along the Rhine to Oberkassel – an insider tip that remains almost empty even at its peak.

Flower barometer: How not to miss the peak

The exact start depends on the temperature and hours of sunshine. Historically, the first buds open between March 24 and April 4. Follow the city of Bonn’s official blossom barometer daily – it will be published again at https://www.bonn.de/bluetenbarometer from February 2026 – and the community ticker Kirschbluete-Bonn.de. Our tip: the photo density is highest two days after “Vollpink”, but the canopy is still closed. Plan your session around 7 a.m., when the streets are freshly cleared and the morning light is shining through the leaves.

Photo guide: The 5 best spots & settings

5th **Path across the Rhine at Kennedy Bridge** – Blue hour meets pink, spectacular reflections.

Arrival, parking & visitor guidance 2026

The city is focusing on sustainable travel in 2026. From Remagen station, you can reach Bonn main station in 18 minutes. From there it is 900 meters to the old town. For car drivers, we recommend the Rheinaue P+R (€3/day) and the 10-minute streetcar shuttle. Parking spaces in the city center will be closed from 9 a.m. on Saturdays from the start of flowering. A digital slot system is new: visitors select a two-hour time slot free of charge and gain access to the pedestrian zones via QR code. This is intended to limit the maximum number of 10,000 people at any one time. More information can be found in the City of Bonn’s 2025/26 traffic concept.
